KENYATTA “CULTURE” HILL

PASS THE TORCH

An icon revered in the annals of reggae music, Joseph “Culture” Hill championed the rights of those in need, leading an unrelenting musical protest against social injustice. His talents for performing and songwriting allowed him to convey a message both poignant and mystical—a unique and recognizable voice that appealed across audiences. His true love of humanity shined through wherever he went.

More than a performer, Joseph was a soldier, often traveling to the war torn countries of Africa to spread the message of peace and unity. His fans—many of whom struggled under dire or difficult circumstances—took his message to heart, overcoming the diverse complications life had given them.

The veteran soldier passed away on tour in Germany in August 2006. His family, whom he loved without reservation, was by his side. Joseph always gave of himself to the fullest and never held back.

Now his son, Kenyatta, is set to carry on the tradition which his father so gracefully laid before him. Though Kenyatta had never performed before, his sound is strikingly similar to that of his father, as though Joseph’s voice were channeled through his own. Kenyatta’s youthful energy is the strength that carries Joseph’s message onward.

In this debut release for Kenyatta “Culture” Hill, many songs that Joseph had completed prior to his untimely passing are paired with the first efforts from the newly crowned warrior, obviously ready to take over the battle his father so valiantly fought. Alluta Continua!
